Job Description

One White Street is looking for an experienced Baker to join our team.  Our mission is to set a new standard of what a neighborhood restaurant can be ; to be ambassadors for Tribeca, our community, and our industry; and to be a restaurant with no borders or boundaries.  One White Street is a restaurant in downtown New York City from Chef Austin Johnson. Located in a historic Tribeca townhouse, One White Street is a place to feel at home.

The Bakery

We have a micro bakery built into our marketplace, Rigor Hill Market, connected to One White Street. The Bakery produces retail bread / pastry, sandwich market bread and service breads for the restaurant.

We produce a variety of yeasted doughs, sourdoughs, viennoiserie and other pastry. We have huge demand in our marketplace and a built in wholesale customer at our restaurant. We uphold high standards and strive for excellence. We use freshly milled grains, focus on local sourcing and work with a tight knit team in a small but well equiped space.

The Opportunity

The Baker is responsible for assisting in all baking operations of One White Street / Rigor Hill Market while upholding market standards. The Baker works in cooperation with the Head Baker, Chef and management to ensure efficient operations.  

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of food service and storage facilities.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment; use equipment and tools only as intended, properly and safely
  • Set up workstation with required mise en place, tools, equipment and supplies according to standards
  • Check production schedule and pars and establish priority items for the day
  • Prepare all menu items following recipes and yield guides, according to department standards in a time efficient manner
  • Restock items that were depleted during the shift
  • Communicate with Front of House to manage timing of courses, any guest feedback, etc.
  • Update knowledge and skills by participating in staff training opportunities
  • Be a team player—support and assist your fellow team members whenever possible
  • Ensure company policies, procedures and brand standards are always followed.
  • Follow Health & Safety and Food Safety standards.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by management

Requirements:

  • 1+ years of Bakery or Restaurant experience
  • Food Handler’s permit (within 30 days upon hiring)
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50+ pounds
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays, and variable schedule per the needs of the business
